Baseball players use music

by Andres Rivero, Sports, March 2009

As he walks up to the plate, sophomore third baseman Jovany Felipe nods his head to “Rewind” by Li’l Wayne.“It’s just my favorite song,” said Felipe, who gets to hear it before every at-bat at home baseball games.

Walk-up songs are a Cavalier tradition, and every player on the roster has their song of choice pumped through the Woodward Field P.A. system as they step into the batter’s box.

What does each Cav go through to decide on his signature tune? What effect does it have on him at the plate? Several varsity baseball players chimed in – read on to find out what they said.

Lazaro Vasquez, SS

“One Step Closer,” Linkin Park

“Because every time we step on the field, we’re one step closer to winning.”

J.D. Comas, P

“Who Hotter Than Me?,” Plis

“Because nobody’s hotter than me!”

Lazaro Core, OF

“Till I Collapse,” Eminem

“I just liked it, it gets me excited.”

Roberto Martin, 1B

“Get Up,” 50 Cent

“Because it gets me up.”

Antonio Rodriguez, OF

“Can’t See Y’all,” Ace Hood

“It pumps me up.”
