Visual and Performing Arts

by Jannelys L. Santos

Drama IV Thespians Andrea Whittle, Judith Vigil, Marc Briz, Monique Alfonso, Julian Malagon, and Jannelys L. Santos, competed in three events at the 2009 Florida State Thespian Festival in Tampa with one duo acting and two ensemble acting pieces. The students earned high praise for their performances.

"The most rewarding part was being with my troupe and getting to know each other better," said senior Andrea Whittle.

The students were able to attend several workshops, ranging from the art of improvisation to the art of dialects. They were also able to sit in on performances by other schools, ultimately ending their days in the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, where they saw three musicals from neighboring schools. The musicals included Seussical the Musical, Kiss Me Kate, and The Wedding Singer.

The Drama IV class is now preparing for the final showcase which will be performed May 11th and 12th at 6:30 in the Little Theatre for five dollars.

"We are going to be performing an original one-act play created by everyone in the class followed by the second act which will include individual events," said senior Judith Vigil.

For the first time in history, the Early Childhood Education class has chosen to cater the graduation of the Little Cavaliers. The school provides "a full service preschool facility" handled by the Early Childhood Education Class.

"On May 26, the Early Childhood Education Class is going to have a safari-themed graduation." Cassandra Baez, said.

There were some rumors that the Fashion Design class was making the cap and gowns and that the Culinary Operations class was making the food. This, however, is untrue. Only the Early Childhood Education Class is taking part in the graduation.

I.B. Liberal Arts

by Maria L. Pablo

As the school year comes to an end, International Baccalaureate students prepare to take on the last challenge of their high school career: the IB exams. Exams take place during the month of May in order to obtain the IB diploma. However, rumors have circulated the senior class about the exams.

"I heard from various students that we won’t be able to take our exams if we have a C or lower in any designated IB class," said Ana Diaz, IB senior.

When questioned about this, Sylvie Cuesta, the IB coordinator, resolved the issue.

"Although it is possible for an IB senior to be denied the chance to take an exam, there are many other things that are considered first," she said.

This means that a C in an IB class does not mean that a student will be automatically excluded from an IB exam.
