Remix 3

by Tyler Peters,  highlights, News, March 2009

Young filmmaker Rick Troutner has planned to debut his new film since he began writing the script in September of 2007. Troutner condensed 22 hours of footage, 22 tapes worth of film, and two years of work, into a two hours and twenty five minute feature film on Wednesday, March 17th. A wide audience of Troutner’s friends, family, and other students attended the premier of Remix 3 at the Arts and Minds Center in Coconut Grove. Entrance was discounted to five dollars through pre-sale tickets sold by members of TV production, but remained seven dollars at the door. Rather than collecting the money for his next film project, all the proceeds went directly towards the Bridge 4 Peace community service project, a new International Baccalaureate fundraiser for an overpopulated school in the Dominican Republic.

“I knew I wanted to show the film as a community service project. I talked to my counselor, Mrs. Cuesta, and she suggested I donate the proceeds to Bridge 4 Peace,” Troutner said.

Silvie Cuesta, IB project coordinator, and the rest of the International Baccalaureate team raised 5,500 dollars during Bridge 4 Peace walkathon at the end of January, through flat donations, and donations per lap and Troutner’s film pushed the fundraiser past the six thousand dollar mark. A large population of IB students and faculty attended the walk, including International Relations teacher Marcos Redondo, who set a lofty goal of 100 laps, 25 miles.

“It’s a great opportunity for students and teachers to get involved a fundraising event. The IB program has done a really good job in representing themselves as an international school,” Redondo said.

Troutner is a Silver Knight nominee for New Media and is the TV production president. He plans on showing his film at the first annual Gables Film Festival hosted by the film society which should happen some time in May. He also plans to show the film at the University of Miami.

“I’d like to thank all of the cast and everyone who showed up. I applaud David Perez and Juan Estrada for their talented roles, and Juan Bedoya and Rockford Dias for helping with the filming. I also want to thank Ms. Cuesta for letting me donate,” Troutner added.
